Summer Reality

Tonight is the premiere of the second season of The Jersey Shore. This is the season with the cast in Miami Beach. The third season back on the Jersey Shore is currently filming (after a brief cast strike). The cast has become a cultural sensation, but not too much since The President didn't know who Snookie was when asked on The View today. The governor of New Jersey said none of them are from New Jersey but he was misinformed. Sweetheart is from Jersey and three of them are from Staten Island which might as well be New Jersey. Seriously, look at a map. How did this island become part of New York? In addition to The Jersey Shore, here are the other reality shows I'm watching this summer.

Kathy Griffin's Life On The D-List. The season finale is next week. This is the funniest reality show. She is constantly planning crazy things just for her show, like her public pap smear.

The Fabulous Beekman Boys. A gay couple from New York City buys a farm in upstate New York and hilarity ensues. The recent episode had the birth of a bunch of adorable baby goats. So cute. And they have wonderful gay couple arguments over stupid things like how to park the tractors. It's very funny.

Holly's World. Holly was Hef's #1 girlfriend but her show is definitely #3 of the girls. Kendra's show is funny and having a sexy Super Bowl star husband to get into adventures with makes for a great show. Holly and her friends are trying so hard to be interesting but they are not. On of the girls has a baby and one got a boob job for her 21st birthday. Wait, maybe those were both the same girl. I don't really remember or care. Plus her gay friend is kind of annoying. He totally blew his audition for the Priscilla on Broadway so he could keep hanging out with Holly. What an idiot.

Last Comic Standing. This show gets completely reconfigured every time it comes back. This year it is very much the American Idol standard with home voting determining who stays and goes each week. My favorite is the tiny Jew, Myq Kaplan. He is the funniest.

Top Shot. This History Channel reality competition show is quite entertaining. It's done Survivor style with teams competing on shooting challenges. The loosing team nominates two candidates to compete in a final elimination challenge. The red team keeps nominating their best competitor because they don't like him. But he keeps coming back. I think next week the teams will merge. I find this show quite entertaining.

Reality Show Round Up

There are a surprising amount of reality show starting up or returning right now. Here are some you should watch, consider, and avoid

Watch them!
Kathy Griffin: Life on the D List - Returns 6/8/9 on Bravo. This show has taken home the Emmy for best reality show two years in a row. It's funny and some times heart wrenching. I can't wait to see what crazy antics Kathy gets up to this year!
Exhibition Africa - 5/31/09 History Channel - A group of survivalist trek across the African wilderness with no backup support. It looks to be full of challenges and cool wildlife.
Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood - yesterday on Oxygen - I really enjoyed last season. At the Bravo awards Tori thanked all the people who make fun of here like Chelsey Handler. She is a good sport.
Tosh.0 - 6/4/9 on Comedy Central - A new weekly clip show which discusses and shows the best stuff from the Internet. VH1 had a show like this a while ago. I wonder what happened to that?
Kendra - 6/7/9 on E! - Girl Next Door Kendra has moved out of the Playboy Mansion and is getting married to a football player. She is a total dimwit but I love her.
Brooke Knows Best - 6/7/9 on VH1 - Season one was great and totally staged. When Hulk showed up at Spring Break I laughed my ass off. Plus her gay BFF is really cute.

Consider Them!
Top Chef Masters - 6/10/09 on Bravo - Bravo does reality competition really well. I keep hearing good things about Top Chef. I might watch it this year.
E True Hollywood Story - tonight on E - OK this isn't a new season since this seems to run continuously. But tonight is the 500th episode of THS. They are always entertaining.
Real Housewives on New Jersey - two weeks ago on Bravo - I've only watch the Atlanta edition of Housewives but they get a lot of coverage on the clip shows so I think I might pick this one up.
I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here - 6/1/9 on NBC. Two words: Sanjaya! He might be worth watching the horrible Heidi and Spencer for.
Intervention - This Week on A&E - I watch this now and then. It gets really hard to watch after a while, especially after a few where people don't get better. Usually the alcoholics fail more often than the drug addicts. I've never seen anyone with a pot problem who needed intervention.
Obsessed - This week on A&E - This new show from the producers of Intervention is about people with Obsession disorders. The first episode had two people with OCD. They both responded well to treatment. The hunky gay germaphobe even had his boyfriend move in and they got a German Shepherd. Dogs are a constant mess maker so this was huge for him. Good job!
Wipeout - tonight on ABC - This show is always good for a laugh if not to just here the host say Big Balls every week.
Charm School with Ricki Lake - Last week on VH1 - VH1 can really recycle its reality stars. Real Chance at Love and Rock of Love skanks compete for a very small cash prize. The last two seasons were great. Let's see how Ricki Lake does as Head Mistress.

Avoid Them!
Denise Richards: It's Complicated - Bravo. She is so gross. I couldn't imagine watching one minute of this.
Jon and Kate Plus Eight - Returned Monday on TLC. Isn't it convenient that all the affair rumors happened just before their show returned for a new season? She is such a controlling bitch I can't believe Jon hasn't killed himself already.
The Little Couple - This week on TLC. Another LTC disaster. Newlywed little people try to cope in a big people world. Boring.
Ice Road Truckers - 5/31/09 History - It's just how I want to spend my summer, watching truckers drive on a series of frozen lakes in the dead of a north Canadian winter to deliver mining supplies.
Hammertime - 6/14/09 on A&E. MC Hammer is back with a new reality show. Please spare us all.
Tattoo Highway - 5/27/09 on A&E - I don't know why there are so many tattoo shows out there? This one has a tattoo artist traveling the country on his tattoo bus.
Gene Simmons Family Jewels - 6/7/9 - Unless you are a KISS fan avoid the new season of the family that is trying to be the Osbournes.
The Bachelorette - last week on ABC - While at the only motel stop on my California road trip, I turned into the first episode of the new Bachelorette last week. They picked the girl who made out with the loser in the top tub. That clip made all the rounds because it looked like he was penetrating her. She gets to choose from 30 losers on her own. The big problem is none of them are from her home town of Vancouver, BC so someone will have to move if things work out. But they never do.

Company Meeting!

Kathy's season finale is tonight. This is the best celebreality show there is right now. I love Brooke Knows Best, but that is just fun and silly compared to this. Kathy thrives from being on the D-List. She takes these gigs which perpetuate her D-List status. She would never have survived as a View co-host. Being that popular would make her self destruct. Her show is always funny, sometimes ha-ha funny and sometimes awkward funny. The Woz was a great addition this season. I'm glad he never clicked her mouse. That's a gross image. Speaking of images, the photo is of me in front of Kathy's house last week while on a trip to L.A. I'm a total stalker. I didn't see Kathy or any of Team Griffin. There was a gardener there.

Kathy is Blowing Up My TiVo

Kathy Griffin is blowing up my TiVo. Repeats of season 3 of Life on the D List were on all morning. I watched some before work. My TV is also my alarm clock so I woke up during Kathy’s date with Ron Jeremy. It was unusual. But tonight is the start of season 4 of Life on the D List. Yay for Kathy. The half hour before her show is the red carpet special for the special Bravo A List awards, which comes on after the season premier. It’s just Kathy Kathy Kathy, all night long. Yay!

In more Kathy news, her next Seattle show goes on sale on Saturday. The show is on 11/20/08. I took a look at the ticket price and Holy Fuck Balls! Tickets that were $42 last year are now $72! With the insane ticket master fees it’s going to be like $90 per ticket. I’m still going. Plus I just found out that Kathy is performing in Las Vegas while I’m there this summer. Yay for me!

My final Kathy news is my super famous YouTube clip from Kathy’s penultimate appearance on The View last year. It’s the third highest most viewed Kathy Griffin video, after her Today show rant on Ann Coulter and the Eminem video she appeared in. View count has been up recently and so has the comments. Most are favorable but there’s this one odd fish who keeps claiming Kathy is Jewish and immoral. I wish people would stop imposing their beliefs on Kathy. She's a free spirit. Yay for Kathy!

Daniel's Award Show Wish

I'll jump to the end, I got my Award Show Wish. I hate award shows. I stopped watching them in high school when I realized they were a huge waste of time. I could just watch the news and read the paper and get the results. Now of course I check the Internet. What I've always wanted was just a news conference where they announce the winners in the same fashion they announce the nominees. But most people like them, for some reason, and so we have these huge waste of time shows several times a year.

Then came the writer's strike. Even though some of the worst writing on television is on these award ceremonies, the big ones are still written by the members of the WGA. Last week they announced they will be picketing the show so it's been cancelled. In its place NBC will air the press conference announcement of the winners after a special 2 hour Dateline NBC with special commentary Kathy Griffin.

And still, I won't be watching. I'll be TiVo'ing the Sara Conner Chronicles downstairs and The Amazing Race upstairs. But good for Kathy Griffin.

Kathy has been renewed

Kathy Griffin's Schmemmy Award winning reality show, Life on the D-List has been renewed for a 4th season. This time she got a commitment for 10 episodes instead of the usual six. Yay for Kathy!

Speaking of Kathy, tell everyone to watch my Kathy on The View YouTube clip. When you type "Kathy Griffin" in the YouTube search, it is #2 in relevance ranking and #4 in the view count ranking. I recently passed the Anderson Cooper clip which pulled ahead of mine a while ago.

Send it to your friends, link to it, do what ever. And don't miss the great comments these freaky people have been leaving on it. There's a mini religious debate going on.

Kathy Griffin: Straight to Hell

Kathy's back on Bravo for a new stand-up special. I lost count but this is like her fifth or sixth one. When she was in Seattle a few weeks back she mentioned she had just finished filming her latest special. So expect a lot about Britney, Marie Osmond, and The View. And mostly is her great recounting the stories from her great and controversial Emmy speech.

Set you TiVos! Ted, I already set yours.

Suddenly Susan

Why is Charles in Charge on DVD and not Suddenly Susan? I didn't watch the show when it was on but now that I love Kathy G so very much, I want to go back and see them. You can help by clicking on the Amazon alert link. Amazon shares the demand for DVD titles with the studios. You can also help by not watching Charles in Charge.
