I rarely ever watch award shows. I didn't have much else on the TiVo last night so I tuned in to watch Doogie host. He was awesome and everyone told him so. He made a gay joke right in the opening song. I also counted three Kanye West jokes. Here are some of the highlights:

• 30 Rock won for Best Comedy. Yay, 30 Rock! Also Alec Baldwin won, but not Tina Fey. Boo!
• Mad Men won for Best Drama. It's a great show but I'm not sure if it's "Best Drama" material. I went to bed before this award was given out.
• Kristin Chenoweth won for Pushing Diasies. She started to cry and so did I. I love her.
• Grey Gardens won for best TV movie. I loved this movie. Is it available on DVD? If so, go watch it.
• Amazing Race won again for Best Reality show. Does this win every year? Yes it does.
• Kathy didn't win, instead it went to Intervention.
• South Park won for the episode about the economy. Stan's dad's blender was financed but they sold the debt and repackaged it, just like mortgage-backed security bonds. It was great.
• One of my favorite moments was the list of names for best variety show, especially Conan's Facebook gag.

Last night was the something-something annual Emmy Awards. I didn't watch it as I never do. I loath award shows. The Emmys gets way out of control with the number of categories. Every year there's like two more. Did you know they have an award for best casting. How does that require skill? Wow, you did a great job watching people audition. How about best craft service table?

Like last year the big winner was cable. In fact all the major drama awards went to cable shows. 30 Rock rocked the comedy category taking home the top three awards. The only major awards CBS got were for their reality shows. I'm sure they would win if there was a category for best procedural cop show set in Miami. Otherwise they suck. Here is the list:

I think Mad Men deserved it because they award based on one episode, not the entire season. The pilot was the nominated episode at that was one of the best hours of television last year. The show can't really hold up because it is a one joke premise: "look how dumb we were 48 years ago." 30 Rock is the funniest show on television and I'm glad other people think so.

I would also like to make a special congratulation for Pushing Daisies first minor Emmy. They won for Best Musical Composition for the episode "Pigeon". That's they episode where they starting singing "Birdhouse in Your Soul" while driving to the windmill farm. It was wonderful. Watch it here:

There was lots of discussion of the Emmy's this year, mostly about Sally Field getting cut off by the censor ball. The thing I noticed was the wide variety of winners this year. I was expecting the sopranos to dominate the drama category. They ended up only winning best drama and no acting awards. Indeed no show won more than one major award. Here's the list.

"A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this. He had nothing to do with this," Griffin said. "Suck it, Jesus. This award is my god now."

This is sure to piss off a great number of people. This brilliant move could get her off the D-List permanently. If people start protests and boycotts, it will get huge press. She would become a household name for sure. Let's hope the fanatics do their thing. I can't wait to watch The View and hear what they have to say. Even better, Kathy is scheduled to appear on Ellen on Thursday. This should be a spectacular week for our Kathy!
